Free Motion Quilting a Queen

I have always told myself that I would never free-motion quilt a queen size quilt on my domestic machine.  I always thought it would just be too big and bulky.  Wrong!!!
It's going really well, although not necessarily fast...  But that's ok, because I'm getting a lot of practice hours in, and you know what they say...  Practice makes perfect.

I have finished quilting all of the blocks and the outer borders.  Now I just have to go back and add a filler design to the background.

Cheers!

Basting the Ohio Star

I finished piecing the top of this Ohio Star quilt this past week.

Now it's on the basting table.  I don't normally baste and quilt my own queen size quilts, so this will be a new experience for me.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

Cheers!

Ohio Star Progress

It feels so good to be back at the sewing machine again.  It's been a rough couple of weeks, but sewing is so therapeutic for me.  I'm in my "happy place" today.

Yesterday I played with the yummy colors in this Ohio Star quilt - my version of "random" is anything but.  I love the look of a random color layout, but my brain keeps insisting on having a plan.  So it's "planned random".  Works for me...
(just realized these colors remind me of a roll of Lifesavers candy, mmmm!)

Where you see the purple triangles coming together will actually become Shoo Fly blocks once the sashing and cornerstones are added to the layout.
Now I'm in the process of assembling all the blocks.

The sun is out and it's supposed to hit 65 degrees today!  I just might take some time to go for a walk this afternoon.  How about you?

Cheers!
